Summer Intensive 2024: Afro-Cuba: Contemporary Art and Ritual

In this Knight Summer Art and Research intensive program, ICA Miami focuses on the contemporary art and rituals of Afro-Cuba. These seminars are led by scholars of Caribbean cultural studies and aesthetics, anthropology and religious studies, providing students with a dynamic background and approach to Afro-Cuban art and culture. Through a variety of aesthetic, ethnographic, historical, and socio-cultural methods, students will learn about the works of Black Cuban artists along with the complex histories and lived traditions of Afro-Cuban rituals. The seminars will be followed by a day-long symposium at ICA Miami, where seminar leaders will give public lectures that will build from the week-long discussions. Seminars participation is by application only and the symposium will be open to the public upon registration.
